2wd strut

The problem I see with using 2wd struts is you have far more weight on the front end of the 4wd (transfer case, front diff etc, etc,) therefore I would think the valving would be different on the shocks. Are the shocks/struts not a one piece unit or can the shocks be replaced on their own?. I don't know what the downside is to cutting the coil other than a slight increase in spring rate, again I am only looking for a 1 1/2 inch drop.

Based on Lariat 3.5eco there are only four shocks listed. Base payload 4wd and HD payload 4wd and the same for 2wd. So all you need to know is what is your current payload and choose the shocks 1 or 2. As for springs there are many variations thats why I would stick with the OEM spring that came on your truck as the are matched to you engine and payload.
The front struts are actually 2 pieces. The spring seat or perch is removable and that is what sets the height. Most aftermarket struts require you to remove the spring perch from the oe strut and reinstall on your new one. What I can't say for sure is whether the oe 2wd struts have a shorter throw.
I have been running 4wd struts with cut springs for about a year now without issue.

Those are the factory 17" 265/70/17. Website lists them as 31.7 dia but they measure closer to 30.5 dia. My truck is a 4x4. I have some Harley 22s I am waiting to put on. Just need to get some rubber for them first.

I know this thread is from a year ago. But what was the final result with this? Did you go with the 2wd struts or did you cut the springs from the 4wd strut? I gonna lower my 2013 4wd and I read on the forum about using the 2wd struts but never heard how it went.

i cut 1/2 coil from my 4x4 springs and still running 4x4 struts. removed the rear block and sits almost level, front is about an inch lower than the rear.
no issuses with handling and ride quality. i would say after settling 1/2 coil netted about 1 1/4 inch drop.
