whistling noise 2000 5.4L
When I step on the gas peddle, at highway speed, I hear a whistling noise. The more throttle I give it, the louder the noise. When I back off the peddle, the whistle goes away. I'm a new owner, my other rig is an 85 F250, so I don't know if this is a normal sound, or if something's wrong. Any help is appreciated.

The only whistling I have experienced was from my coolant reservoir pressure cap. it would make a slight "whistle" every time I let off the throttle due to the fact it was bleeding pressure produced by the cooling system.

It is a vacuum tube elbow, there was a ton of them coming in to work the past few weeks, due to it being cold them warm and then freezing.. Also it has to due with the rubber elbow flexing when you or who ever romps on the gas and i guess boot scoots and boogies!!!
Its on top next to the intake and it looks just like a 2 inch blk elbow

Thanks for the responses. Is the elbow attached to the intake? I looked at the fittings on either end, and didn't see anything cracked or distorted. I can't pinpoint the noise either, if I move the throttle manually. It just seems to be coming from the intake area.

Best thing i can say is look in your repair book and locate a diagram of the vac system and look for an elbow,
its on the top near the intake... Its no bugger then 2 inchs

Have two thoughts. First, not a vacuum issue because the noise is reported to increase with throttle. Engines have higher vacuum at closed throttle then at open. I would tend to think its in the area before the throttle, from the throttle body toward the air filter.

Are all the clamps tightened down on the air cleaner tubes? Could be that somebody has had the tubes off at one point and forgot to re-tighten them, and now a little air is getting by and cuasing the wistling noise.

Did you check your intake manifold gasket? I had a 97 Explorer that did the same thing, Get some throttle body cleaner and spray it around the top of your engine around the throttle body and listen for a change in rpms, if it does your IMG is more than likely bad. Hope this helps. Justin
