Question wheel bearing front 03 f150

Hello I need your help.

My front bearing is making a grinding sound while going straight. If I turn left it stays the same if I turn right it gets a lot less. Is it the left bearing than? Should I replace the whole hub at once?

I Need your help

Default The Whole Nine Yards:

Sounds like a right-side bearing has gone south.
Pull the hubs and change out any bearing that looks worn...or just replace 'em all, a better idea that'll give you a fresh start. Outside races may need to be driven out and new races pressed into the hubs.

While you're about it, grease the bearings with a good grade of moly-lithium grease, synthetic or otherwise. I like Valvoline VV632 Moly Fortified NLG1, Ford M1C75B.

Jack the front end up, put one hand on the top of the tire and put the other hand on the bottom. If there is movement, then it is probably a wheel bearing. If it is a 4x4, the bearing is probably not serviceable. You will need the entire hub. I have a 97 4x4, and I did this a few days ago. Cured the problem. The hub will probably run around $150 at a auto parts store. Make sure you have plenty of PB lube. I had a hell of a time getting my rotor off. A big puller will also help get the hub off. While you got the hub off, check your cv joint. Good Luck and be patient. If the hub and rotor are stubborn, Let the pb soak for awhile.

Default Have more questions

My ford is a 4x4 does that automaticly mean the whole hub has to be removed? And should that be the right one? How do I double check that?

Had the same problem, it got really bad and loud. couldn't tell which side
it was either. My son jacked the front end up and like the other guy said
took a hold of the wheel top and bottom at that point a blind man could see the bad one. Yes you must replace the whole assembly. Cost a around $150.
a few years back. Took my son 13 minutes to remove it and 10 minutes to replace. Getting your rotor off might be the hardest part of your replacement.

You can rent the socket for the axle nut. Mine was a 35mm.

Ok Now it gets interesting.......................... I lifted the truck and there was no movement on the bearing. Some grinding sound coming from the brake disks but nothing on the bearing. also checked the axles but they only have minimum movement on both sides aproximatly the same.

I am kind of lost, the sound has an interval and sounds like a grinding bearing.

Does anyboday have any ideas and also how to check if that is it?

thanks for your help
