Default What's Up with the In-dash ashtray / cupholders ?

So this summer... all of a sudden my indash cupholder stays "in" about 1/4" and has lost its push in / push out ability.

I have since noticed that many of our trucks have this malady as noted in ebay pictures of various f150's for sale.

My questions:

1. What happened?
2. Is this easy to fix?
3. Anybody know where to get one (gray for me) other than ford dealer?
4. What is the Ford part number?

Thanks for any help.

Take it out, clean it up, lube the track.... and then see what happens. I put mine in the dishwasher every so often...

Default cub holder

I just found out the cup holder has a spring steel gizmo that is melted into the plastic back of the cup holder (rear) and it fell off behind the holder. I took it apart and drilled two small holes same as contact points and put bolts and nuts on it. Thats the problem.

Would epoxy work to hold it in place ? ( I mean the spring... not the ashtray ...lol)
