Default What year did ford start useing the cam phaser

I am in the market looking for my first F-150. I have seen several problems associated with f150 cam phasers going bad at all milages. Are the years before the cam phaser more reliable? What year should I be looking to buy?

Thanks,
Glenn

i dont know about the cam phasers but you can only assume the newer the better. if i were to buy another i would avoid the 97 model and probably pre 2000. the 97 was the first year and has several small to moderate differences to the later model like transmission difference and three doors to four, front end differences, guages, and im sure lots more here and there. this all basically means everything is harder to find when you need it. i love my truck and am mechanically inclined enough to help my self out with swapping stuff but some times its just a pain in the ***.
