I'm using the oil that the owners manual recommends, 5W20. Regular old dino juice, and I'm at 133 K miles with no issues. Unless your motor is highly modified, stick with what the factory says, you'll be fine.

its always a good idea to stick with exactly what the manufacture calls for, which like he said is 5-20. you can spice it up with some synthetic if ya want

I have a 2000 F150 4X4 W/ 5.4L and the owners manual states 5W-30. I run Mobil 1 full synthetic with Lucas additive. Try it you'll love it.

Don't put synthetic in it unless it has had synthetic before that. The synthetic could break down the carbon and sludge and claug up the oil pick up in the pan.

Thats just an old wife's tale. You can switch to synthetic any time you want and it wont cause you any problems.
If it were my truck, Id use Motorcraft 5w-30. You could probably get away with using 5w-20, but Im pretty sure the manual for that truck calls for 5w-30, so thats what I would use.
I used Motorcraft 5w-30 in my truck and it works great. It runs smoother, gets better gas milage and it seems to leak less oil. Not to mention that as far as synthetics go, Motorcraft is pretty inexpensive.

I want to hear some other peoples opinion because that what I was taught in school. And some mechanic that I work with say that ford is the worse because the pickup strainer is inside of a little case so it is easier to clog up.

its not. the pickup screen is at the bottom of the tube, not in a case. I started running Mobil 1 in my car at 65k......ran just fine for the next 100k. Tell your mechanic he is wrong.
