Default Navigator rear end?

Hi all, I've got an 01 5.4 4x4 with a rear end that's threatening to go any day now. I've had zero luck finding a 3:73 geared 9.75 rear axle so far and I'm definitely not gonna have this one rebuilt. I have a buddy with a wrecked 00 Navi however, and I could get the rear end for a couple hundred easy. My question is, will the shock mounts/disk breaks/etc interchange? I'm aware of the air ride that most Lincolns are equipped with, just hoping for some way around it.. Whatcha guys think?

Aren't there coils on the back of a navigator?

I'm looking in to this a bit, as it would give me more options to work with. The rear end in mine has been whining for a while. The P.O. bought it with the whine at 20k. Same rear end, same whine, only the odometer is up to 157K. Misaligned gears if i remember right.

I know you'll have to do leaf perches and I'm not 100% sure but I think the shocks have one on the front side of the axle as to where your truck probably has both mounted to the back side of the axle, either way it's pretty easy to change those, and for the shocks I'd just move the mounting location on the truck not the diff, if they are set up the way I described it that's the same set up as the lightning which they did to reduce axle wrap

Sounds worth pursuing. I'll go look at the navigator sometime tomorrow, see what's what and take some measurements.

Let me know if you can make it work. It'll definitely give me more options.

What makes you believe your rear diff is going?
Have you had the pan off?

Sure have, changed the differential fluid two weeks ago with 75w-140 with friction modifier. There were excess metal shavings. The gears had some slop when rotating the tires with the rear jacked up but I didn't notice anything out of place like shims. It whines like a dog at 40+ and I can feel a considerable amount of resistance when coasting. LS works good though, and the diff isn't terrible hot after driving for a while.

Ya definitely has some wear on the coast side of the ring gear.
You shouldn't have wasted your money on the 75w-140.
If you can't find a replacement to swap in right away I would suggest changing the rear one more time to Lucas oil stabilizer. Run at least 3/4 of Lucas and then top off with 80/90 and your modifier.

If you hoping your diff will last a while longer then this will help keep it alive and should quiet it a bit.

Thanks for the advice. I'll definitely try the Lucas before deciding to swap this one out.
