If those are okay, you should unfortunately expect bigger tranny issues down the road.

There are plugs in them that look like large set screws. Just take a 3/8" ratchet and put it in the square hole to remove them. The fluid should be right at the bottom of the hole with the plug removed.

Dave is correct, too. For no more than it costs, it might be a good idea to go ahead and change the transmission fluid and filter.

Any pics? How do I measure it, and what color should it be?

No way to really check it. You add fluid until it seeps out of the plug hole. T/C should be red (tranny) rear diff will look like engine oil but more black & thicker. Smells like a 6 pack of old peoples asses too. If you've never changed either, now would be a good time. But yeah, get that tranny filter & fluid changed too.

Is your shift lever real sloppy? I had a problem with my trans slipping and my shift arm was real sloppy. It turned out to be two bolts that hold the shift linkage under the dash that work loose. Took it to a trans shop and they adjust the linkage and loctite the bolts back in for $25. IBD on the forum here just did a write up on it.

So I feel really dumb and sorry for my truck. That day I had to use 4x4 so I did not spin out in a guys driveway. I think that I did not put it fully back into 2wd, and when it did its jerky thing it went back into 4x4. The reason I think this is today, the 4x4 light was on, and it was indeed in 4x4. Put it back in 2wd, drove around for a couple hours, and had no problems.

Lmao! Sorry, but it happens sometimes. Glad it wasn't a tranny failure!
