Default What is the difference

Between a XLT and the FX4 after searching through the fourm a little I didn't see anything that gave a direct answer sorry if this is something that has been asked a lot I am on the mobile site and it seems to be more difficult to navigate than the desktop version lol but I am at work and this is what I have...anyways sorry for my winded explanation of why I am asking this just would like to know the real difference between the two

thanks

XLT is an interior/trim package FX4 is an off road package. The internet may correct me if i'm wrong.

Yep and the 1997-1998 f150 4x4 off roads are essentially the same as the 99+ fx4s. Except they went to 3:73 gears in the rear and I believe rancho shocks in the 99+ fx4s.

Not quite thunda but close. Gears weren't only 3.73s.

I stand corrected, let me rephrase that. The more common gears were 3:73, but 3:55s were still an option.

So if I wanted to do a FX4 conversion what all would I have to change on my XLT?

Wheels, grey fender trim and a sticker mostly.

I've got some 09+ fx4 stickers laying around since I can't put them on my truck. They can be yours for $20.

Don't forget that the FX4 has skid plates also. XLT's can be either 2wd or 4wd, while the FX4 is 4wd only. Later years Ford made a FX2, but not in Gen 10.
