Well after a grueling past few weeks, I finally had my first major issue with my F-150. Being as this is my first 5.4 I've owned, I haven't heard the tell tale sign of a blown spark plug. I was waiting at a red light on the way home from the grocery store and then BANG pop pop pop pop all the way home. At first, I thought I had a rod knock, thinking oh great now I have to do engine swap. But me being the optimistic one I took that as an opportunity to find an engine and throw on some power adders and headers along with a whipple that's been collecting dust for some time. After pulling the left side spark plugs, I figured well hell they're all good or the engine wouldn't even start. So after hours of youtube videos and cruising this and another F-150 forum, I narrowed it down to a blow spark plug. Now which one could it be, knowing I had already pulled the left bank. So I torn down the right and just to my horror, it was the dreaded number 4. No room for anything smh. So after i found the shattered boot and coil, I pulled the plug out of the hole and began my search for a thread repair kit. Knowing I needed to heli-coil it, I researched my best cost effective option. The day I found my rethread kit, ( I used the OEM brand kit from AutoZone and they price matched Amazon for 16.99. ) we found out my wife has a tumor in her left breast. So with the bad news racking up I knew i had to get my truck fixed. Long story short, I replaced all plugs and coils, about 3 hours shot to machine the thread tap ( longer story there) the truck runs better now. Little hiccups now and the SES light flicked on last night. Going to get it read today to narrow it down. Hope everyone had a great holiday!
