if youre going to go through the trouble of actually using a buffer, and polishing it out, a clay bar removes fine contaminates that you cant see with the naked eye. If not, then youre just mashing these contaminates into the paint when youre polishing it. And time and effort.. i did my entire truck last night in about 15-20 minutes.

edit: but yes, i do agree that it shouldnt have to be done that often. I do mine maybe 2-3 times a year.. or in yesterdays case to remove slight overspray from where I was painting the chassis bits.

Yeah I know. I edited my post to clarify. If you're going to take a buffer to it, you better make sure it's squeaky clean.

slow and tedious. lol. I couldnt imagine doing an entire truck without ATLEAST the little buffer for a drill attachment (the little buffer attactments can be found in some of those head light cleaner kits, or 3m's wheel refinishing kit. I actually use the one from the 3M kit for small jobs, like isolated scratches, or more recently the bumper on my Tahoe.)

I know how you feel. When I bought my truck (black) about a year and a half ago it just didn't have that beautiful black shine when it was clean that you want with a black truck. I mean it was just plain dull pretty much. So after going to auto geek.net and getting some advice I ordered the meguiars paint restoration kit. It came with polish, a clay bar kit (Just one bar though), nice car soap, wax (that lasted me many more uses after the first), wax applicator pad and some rags. They also told me to add another polishing compound, which I did and I also ordered another pack of 3 rags which you will need. I applied the entire kit by hand, yeah that was an experience, and put as much elbow grease as possible into it. It took me a total of five days (because of my work schedule) and man it was worth it. My truck literally went from being dull when it was clean, to shiny when it was dirty. I get compliments on my trucks paint all time, I mean it really worked for me. I can't promise as noticeable results with a lighter colored truck like yours, but it made a huge difference on truck.

I suggest a synthetic sealant in place of wax. Synthetic sealant will last longer.

Whoopie! Truck washing lessons! All I use is soap and water, then wax it. It looks good, even right now it looks decent and its covered in dust and still shiny.. but if there is a way to make it better, I am all for it!
