Default What did you do with sticky steering wheel?

I wonder if there is a magical way to make it un-sticky. My question is not necessarily about the steering wheel but the handle bar mounted on A-column on passenger side. It became sticky and no paint will cure dry to touch. The plasticizer in the handle bar is dissolved in paint and keeps it from drying, I suppose. Nearest junk yard is 10 miles away

Thanks.

10 miles isn't that far lol. The only thing I can think of is the obvious soap/water/ then sponge it with the coarse side.

On a side note I wander if this is why my grandpa always put flour on the steering wheel?

No, not the gear shifter handle. The handle that you can hold to support yourself as you enter from the passenger side.

It is the plasticizer that is oozing out of the plastic, not dirt/grease from hand. You can clean up dirt/grease but not plasticizer. Flour Is a good idea. But it is a temporary fix.

Okay. I will have to visit JY. Thanks.

Well, hope you find it.

Grab bar.

Plasticizer is a chemical added to flexible plastics, rather added to hard plastics to make them flexible. Typical plasticizer is phthalate. It behaves like oil, and smears out to the surface as oily stuff. I am going to get a replacement from JY. I am not sure which years to get it from. I will find out.
