Lightbar Whistle Fix!
Hey guys, when I installed my light bar I noticed a horrible whistle/vibration coming from the cooling fins on the back of the light bar. After doing a bit of research I found out that its an extremely common problem with light bars, there are a few methods out there but this is the one I found to be the best and least obstructive to the cooling fans. Keep in mind these fans do not even really get warm so you dont have to worry about cooling issues.
Step 1:
You will need to purchase a "Door Sweep" you can get these at your local Home Depot or Lowes, I was unable to find the link to where I actually purchased mine from, but it cost about 15$, they come in 36" pieces so if you have a 50" light bar you will need two of them.
Make sure to get the one with 3M adhesive backing like this..
Step 2:
**If you have a curved light bar you will have to cut the door sweep in 6-8Inch pieces because of the curve, If you have a straight light bar all you will have to do is add a 14" piece to the 36" piece**
Using a sharpie I measured the rubber seal ( for this guide I just used a scrap piece that I had)
Step 3:
Using a pair of scissors I cut the rubber seal as far as I could go, where it meets the aluminum.
Step 4:
Using a metal cutting disk like this...
simply cut the aluminum rib, this can be done using a hand saw if you don't have a cutting disk handy...
Step 5:
Peal the 3m adhesive backing off of the strips and insert the door sweeps into the ***LOWEST FIN POSSIBLE*** We are trying to redirect the wind around the fins which is causing the whistle so it is very important that you install the sweep on the lowest fin possible like this..
I also should mention that this will hold up to the elements and is nearly invisible. It helped me 1000% so I hope it helps.
