Warning to non-Lightning owners with Lightning wheels
Hey guys, I have a 2002 F150 XL as most of you know by now and I had put the SVT Lightning wheels with BFG Long Trail 265/65s on the truck. Well I knew it had been scrubbing a little at full lock so had been careful. Today I took it to the tire shop to have a new tire put on the drivers front, got a call saying there was major damage to the rim on the inside. Apparently the offset is just right towhere it rubs against a bracket for something in the brake system.. One of my SVT wheels is no longer usable now, and I have no other rims :\. Just figured I would warn you guys because I just learned the hard and sad way.

They are the 18s, and it would appear they are from a '99. Last night I could only get it to rub turning hard left to full lock, if I turn RIGHT it won't rub. Must be an alignment and ball joint issue

It's grooved pretty deep and the tire guy said he wouldn't mount a new tire on it because of the risk of the bead of the rim popping off and damaging his machine. I'll see if I can crawl under the truck today and snap some pics of it.

I can't really add aluminum to the bead, don't see how I'd fix it. They weren't my favorite Lightning wheel but when you get a chance to get all 4 with center caps and they're genuine Ford parts for $100 you'd tend to jump at it even if they require repairs like I had to do to make them look good again. I painted them myself.

You know.. Thank you westtn. I thought about that after you said all of it. Then I went and looked at the rear rims.. Unless I have some kind of Quadra-Steer limited edition F150 and the rear rims have been rubbing too, the one rim rubbing isn't that bad. Yes it is damaged but not as bad as they made it sound. I was so frustrated I just believed it and found a new set of rims and tires. Take a look..
