Default Exhaust leak

Ok, the truck definitely sounds like it has en exhaust leak now, most likely drivers side. Are there any typical locations where this happens?

Is it likely the exhaust manifold gaskets? Do these trucks commonly break studs ( like my Jeep...? )

I'm new to Ford so I can't surely tell you what's common and what's not. What I can tell you though is what happened to my truck; my drivers side exhaust manifold has a 1/4 inch diameter hole in it near the first two bolts. The best way I to investigate for a leak was to remove the inner plastic splash shield and just look around with the best flashlight you have. Hope this helps!

I know a couple of the years the manifolds would end up warping causing a leak. Does the sound get quieter after the engine warms up?

The manifolds aren't that expensive if you take the time to price check. I wouldn't recommend getting one from a salvage just for the fact that being used means it could do it again sooner rather than later. If you decide to replace the entire manifold, plan on a long weekend and do both of the gaskets at the same time. Make sure you do a proper torque sequence on them. IIRC though the driver's side is the harder one to do since you have the steering shaft and brake components on that side. Just take your time and do it right the first time. I know there are some YouTube videos on how to do it, so you might want to look into that before you jump off into the project.

I've heard anything from bad gaskets, warped manifolds, cracked manifolds etc.. If you cannot find the leak you can start the truck and try to find it the best you can and feel for any air(be careful!!!) It is a long project and you have to determine if its will be worth it or not.

And it went away. Loaned the truck out to a friend, they never noticed any noise, it I don't hear it anymore. Odd.
