first time postin by the way.
so here is what was goin on with me. 01 4.6 felt like it was missin bad, especially under load, but wouldn't throw code. finally did, read as multiple cylinder misfire. tested all coil packs with ohmmeter, everything checked out. All plugs looked good. Finally one day said "screw it" decided i was figure out what was wrong with this thing or i would have parts scattered all over the yard. Long into short, took injectors out, BADLY clogged up, even after several bottles of injector cleaner. clean them and the truck has never run better. If u have any questions on how i done this or anything just ask, ill keep a check on the message board

its really not hard at all. unbolt the fuel rail from the intake. the fuel rail will pull off of the injectors. unplug the injectors, keep track of what plugs go where or you will have another whole set of problems. then the injectors will simple pull out. make sure the o-rings are still on and dont loose the them. looking into the top of the injector you should see metal and a tiny pin hole. I didnt, all i was able the see was black buildup. get some carb cleaner and clean them out. good as new. hope this helps

do you have to take anything else off or does that come off without anything else

that should be all you have to take off. I have an 01, your 97 may be diffenent. but it shouldnt be, i wouldnt think

Theres nothing on top of it though that would have to come off first. I could probably go look at mine and find out but im to lazy
