Transmission and Transfer Case fluids
I have a 2001 f150 4x4.
I recently replaced my u joints and when I pulled the slip yoke out of the transfer case some fluid came out. My guess is that is transfer case fluid but what confuses me is that I was told to add transmission fluid to replace the lost fluid. From what I've read online the fluids for the transmission and transfer case are different, I could be wrong though. What fluid do I need to replace?
The transmission (4r70w) looks like it calls for Mercon V ATF. And the transfer case calls for transfer case fluid. Could someone please help me identify what kind of fluids are need for both units? Full product names and model number would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Mercon is old and Ford has said to use Merc V in everything that called for Mercon. You can search Google to find the actual document.

That's correct, - use the same, trans/transfer. If you want the best stuff, use Amsoil for the drive-train...everything, including the power steering as well. It's expensive, but truly in a class of it's own, yea much better than Merc V hands down.
I wouldn't use the Amsoil in the crankcase tho, - just the DT.
