Any idea how rough it is to fix? By looking underneath, I'd guess I could drop the cross member and t case while leaving the transmission in place.

Yes. You'd have to drop the torsion bar cross member & drive shaft. Leave the tranny in place. Disconnect & unbolt the t-case and drop it. Pull the seal from the tranny tail shaft housing and replace.

If you have the 4r70 you should be able to disconnect the t-case and drop it without taking out any crossmembers. Just take off both drive lines. Make sure you have it blocked up so it won't roll and set your emergency brake.

The top bolts are a pain to get loose. Just use a swivel and some extensions.

Tail shaft of the t-case is pretty close to the torsion cross member. My member is dropped 6"s for the lift so it's tough to tell by eye balling it. But yeah, much easier if it will come out without touching the torsion bars.

4r70's dont need to remove the t-bar crossmember. 4r100 need to remove the the tbar crossmember.

I was under there today to do the non fouler mod, and I took a closer look. It looks tight at the top, but as you guys have said, it appears I could get it out without messing with the cross member.

I know a seal leak before the tail shaft housing is normal. Leaching a little isn't a big deal. I recall changing my T-case fluid for the first time, - it looked like Ford through sewer water in it lol. Looked terrible. Everything is Amsoiled now, what a difference!
