Default Tow lights not working. NEED HELP!

97 f150 tow lights not working. I bought the truck a year ago and have never tried to use them until now...

How do I go about fixing them? I used a multimeter to test it. I turned on the left hand turn signal and it read a pulsating reading of about .45 volts. Havent been able to get another reading. All terminals are the same .01 volt.

Thanks

First thing to check is fuse. There should be a seperit fuse for tow. If it is factory. Then check under the truck it should plug into a harness. That plug gets dirty. Also clean the ground it should be on the frame near the back bumper.

I checked the fuses and relays. I filed the male and female connection on the 4 pin on my truck. Now Im getting readings. With the signal on I get a fluctuating .4v, Shouldnt it be 12?

How do I clean the plug on the harness. The bottom is dirty from off-roading and mudding.
I will also try to find the ground.

This is the trouble maker in question

Also i dont think this is the factory plug. (if it even had one..)
It says for u-haul trailers. Its a flat 4pin with a 4 pin female spot on top. So I guess a 8 pin? Maybe this is the issue?

It looks like this

Default Tow lights not working. NEED HELP!

Buy a new harness, splice your signal, brake and park light wires and make a new clean ground on the frame. Should fix it.

How do I go about this? From under the truck or take the lights out?

Under the bed to the left inside the frame, you will see the wire coming out of a disconnect..trace which ones go to your trailer hook up and splice your new one in, matching colour for colour, then find a clean bare metal spot on the frame to ground you pigtail harness.

I ended up just cutting the ground wire about a foot and half back from the plug and ground it to the frame.
