My 1998 F150 V6 5speed 175,000 miles had an exhaust leak, the manifold studs were rusted away to nothing. I didn't want to attempt to remove the manifold since the bolts were so rusty and I don't have a welder to weld on new studs. This was my quick, easy fix to that problem:

2 pieces of threaded rod about 4 inches long
4 nuts and lock washers
1 exhaust clamp

I broke off what remained of the studs with my fingers (that's how rusted they were). I put half of exhaust clamp around the manifold and rotated the exhaust flange 90 degrees and used the threaded rod and nuts with lock washers to tighten everything.

Another problem I was having is the 5 speed shifter **** was rattling and driving me and everyone that rode in the truck crazy. So I drilled a very small hole (about 1/32") in the top of the shifter and squeezed some super glue uder it, problem solved.

No kidding, I can't believe the rust on this truck, it's only 12 years old!
That's Michigan for ya, they use a lot of salt on the roads. The rocker panels, cab corners and the bottoms of the doors are literally gone.

If that fixed the ticking sound from the leak then you just saved yourself a bunch of money, my trucks going to the shop next week and it was a estimated cost of $480 to replace the manifold studs

I hot glued my shifter **** back on about 6 years ago. Still holding up fine!

I only paid $600 for the truck so I couldn't see putting that much into it. I scratched my head for a couple of days and came up with this idea.
