Default Thoughts on a 2002 excursion 6.8

It's got a 2002 excursion in on trade. Lifted 2 inches on Bfg all terrains. He has had all the spark plug holes drilled and tapped and now has 9 threads holding the spark plug, rebuild rear end, new driveshafts, new brakes all around, 131k miles. Clean but a little rusty. Has the triton V10 in her, just don't know to much about him but we bought it for $6000 so I could buy it for $6500. It looks badass. New headlights and grill to, no rusted fenders or anything but the and other components are rusted. Just wanted your guys thoughts on it?

You'd have better luck in the Superduty forum, but I know this year of V-10 are fairly bad. They're known for blowing spark plugs and I've been told they nuke at 175-200k miles.

Yea just wanted to see what guys think of them, considered buying it but decided against. And didn't realize the v10 aren't the greatest engines. I drove it, not a torquey as you think it'd be

I had a '99 F-350 with the V-10, they sound awesome and have a decent amount of power (nothing compared to the 7.3L lol), but they are just gas hogs.

Same heads as 4six and 5four, just two more cylinders. They are no more known for blowing plugs then any other modular this gen. They weren't torqued down enough at the factory just like all the rest. If you don't torque them down, they will blow. That is and has been the ONLY reason they do that. The people that don't change their plugs are usually the ones that suffer since they blow at 45-65 thousand miles. Or the people who use original factory torque specs (like a dealership)...owner can suffer that screw up as well. The tapered design losses it's seal eventually , after many miles, then with normal engine vibration, they work their way out.

Regardless, the OP doesn't and will never have the issue. As mentioned in his post (one of the parts of it that made sense anyway), the plug chambers have been upgraded. - that must have been pricey!

I've heard that as well, they'll go to about 200K miles. Not sure why...crank flex maybe?

it seems like I hear a lot more about the V-10's blowing plugs than the 4.6's and the 5.4's, I have seen a couple threads here about the 5.4's blowing plugs though. Maybe it's because the V-10 has too much power for the original Ford spec design?

A guy I work for has a F-250 V-10 (older body style like my old truck) and he always has problems with the spark plugs blowing out. I know he got a complete new engine when it was still under warranty and he's done the plugs himself a few times. In fairness, I think he works that engine a tad bit too hard lol. He tows a lot with it, well over 10k LBS, and it's lifted on 37's with stock gears. Weather or not that's 4.10's, IDK.

I think your looking at it all wrong lol. It's like I said, no particular engine just that what's specified.

2v v10 will grenade them selves anywhere from 100K+. Just depends on how they were driven.

Not all V10's had 4.10s. Alot has 3.73's. It wasnt till the 3v where they practically all had 4.10's and some had 4.30's
