I have been told that higher mileage engines will experience oil seepage from various seals on an engine that has been using conventional oil then switched to synthetic. 61k doesnt sound like that would be an issue.

Best info. That's all you should run, just the blend.

When storing, you must run at least 30 consistent miles every 3 months. Never start then shut down quickly in storage and call it good. You need to run those 30 miles to burn off residual moisture and keep it lubed or your internals will go to hell. Same with the trans. If you store this way, you'll also never have to change your oil.
As mentioned earlier, short trips or short starts/run times will contaminate the oil and the engine when done repeatedly.

I've always used the Motorcraft of Valvoline synthetic blend. This last change though, I used Chevron dino oil. I'm about 600 miles into it, and I will report back how well it does. So far so good though.

I should say that I did this because I am broke as a joke right now... thanks to our wonderful healthcare system.

Order will be restored when I get more of my 16 medical bills paid off/down (already paid off 3).

Fwiw- i had no idea what oil was used in my 03 when i bought it, so, at 150,xxx miles, i went with Mobile 5000 dino oil- ive had great luck with it in my old Explorer, and,so far, good luck in big blue.

Ha ha ha.... you funny guy!....actually, and i dont know if this is a correct way to think, but w/ 150+k miles, i went with 5w-30. I ran 10w-30 in the Explorer- it had 180+k on it.

I can't help it at times, not always anyway lol. IME just going by the operators manual is best. It leaves no question as Ford Engineering has it down pat with what these engines need as far longevity and reliability. They so much as have a team just for monitoring wear ratings with different formulations. In short, after realizing all they do, who am I to try and outsmart that lol. Sticking to the recommended 5w 20w syn blend has net me 330,000 miles on the original engine. Heads have never been removed.

That is awesome!- i hope i get that kind of life from mine- you are probably right- the engineers should know whats best, i guess its my old school teaching from my dad that makes me think about viscosity and old engines!- and true enough, todays oils are much better than back in dads time.
