super super bad fuel economy
Hi, hope someone can throw me a bone here. the issue is my fuel economy dropped to about half of what i usually get!!! I can't get into MPG cause I'm in canada and go by KM's, but like i said, i've got half the KM's on the odometer before i go back to the pump. the screwy thing is I've got no warning lights on, and the truck runs perfect. I thought i would be wasting my time getting a computer test if there was no lights on?
by the way i don't have a hole in my gas tank.
i did a search on here and only found cleaning the Mass air flow sensor to be relevant.
also forgot to mention its a 2001 F150 with the 4.6L.
any advice?
thanks.

Welcome to the site! You've got questions, we've got answers - hopefully the right ones :-)
Have your driving habits changed any? Such as extended idling, warming up before driving off, change in highway/city miles ratio? Didn't see whether or not you had 4WD, but if so, are you running around more with the front engaged?
Down here in the states, we have a 'winter' blend of gas that knocks a couple of percent off the fuel economy, but no where near what you describe. Plus, not sure what the requirements and regulations are north of the border - and, do you all even have a summer up there? :-)~
I hope you're not getting ahold of any E85 ethanol?
Anything seem screwy with the odometer? Bigger tires will affect mileage some, but to get down to half the mileage, it would have to be one heck of a lift! Wondering if aside from the odometer, you're noticing not being able to travel as far between fillups?
Any noticeable changes with the exhaust smell? Does the cat seem hotter than usual?
Does the vehicle 'coast' normally? Wondering about the chances of any brake drag or the like.

Check your tire pressure. If you are running flat you will loose fuel economy. This by no means should account for a decrease in fuel economy of the described magnitude, but it does have an impact.
