Question Suicide Doors/ Rear Doors wont open

Hi Guys,

I have a 2000 F150 4x2 Truck. The suicide doors wont open. I removed the whole panel and found out ways to open it, there are cable that arent functioning properly. I think its the door latch assembly. Any ideas where to get it?

Thanks

My buddies truck just had the same issue. The cable snapped on passenger side. It was a pain in the @%! Went to local jy and pulled the parts. First one was broken. Part was cheap but we changed it in JY lot in about 30 min. (FREEZING out there)

I just worked on my brother's truck because he had the exact same issue. The problem is not the door latch. In fact if you remove it, like we did, all you see is that it only serves as a lever to move the mechanism. It does nor pull or push anything. The real problem lies in the cables. For some reason the factory cables are weak at the support point not the steel cable itself. What I mean is that the cables did not break but the plastic area where they are held in place by the mechanism failed. If you want to at least open the door so u can work on it, remove the panels to access the internal mechanism. There are two cables, one for the top and one for the bottom, pull on both cables at once and the door will open. Then just remove the top latch by removing the three srews and replace both cables. Hope this helps!

Default So Where Do You Get the Replacement Cable?

I have a 1997 Ford F150 with 3rd door.

I have read so many threads talking about the suicide door handle release cable needs to be replaced and that the little plastic clip that connects the cable to the handle lever. I have gone to the Ford Dealership that wants to charge $180 for the part and $150 labor, even though I took off the door panel, speaker and even took off the cable! I am not going to a junk yard because it would used.

I want to new replacement cable, so can anyone tell me where on the Internet, I can purchase it?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Any fishermen out there. If you have ever made your own wire leader you are on the right track to making your own cable the trick is to find the cable with enough strength to continually open the latches, 200lb will do but if you can get a hold of it 400 is better. You take your wire feed the cinch clamp on to it re feed the wire threw crimp meassure and repeat. the Stealership!

12U351 - you are 100% correct. My 1999 door just stopped opening. Took off the panel, got it open, plastic part broken, fixed with copper wire, then plastic connection at the top latch fell apart, now door closed and no way to get it open. At lease it is closed.

Default Suicide doors

It's been close to 2 years now since I fixed my brothers truck. It is still going strong with no issues and he is extremely grateful I was able to fix it. I can hardly remember but can't you remove the panel even though the door is closed?

I wrapped a good size zip tie around the cable and placed it into the
metal cutout. Worked for two days. I also zipped it so it wouldnt fall off.

guess I didnt do it well enough. Uugh...now I gotta take it all apart again.
What a PITA!

Any other ideas on how to connect the wire housing so the mechanism will pull the wire and not just the whole thing? or can you order just that top wire??

Its just a hard rubber grommet that broke...without stabilizing the wire it will not pull it enough to release.
