i didnt have any luck with the iTrip either. it's better than nothing when we had this rental car. but i hate having it when i 1st got my truck. now in my 97 scab, i have a flip out tv with the ipod hook up. but i just wanted to keep the lightning stock looking.

has anyone ever installed a newer radio into a 97-03? can it even be done?

Yeah, they make an install kit that replaces the factory radio with a plastic piece that has a slot for a standard DIN sized radio and also a blank plate or a storage pocket, depending on the kit you buy. You can also do a double-din radio in the opening with some modification but I recommend taking that to a professional.

I found a couple of web sites that have interfaces for the older trucks (I have a 97) that will interface an IPOD to the factory radio used with the CD changer.
The problem is that you have to give up the changer to use it.

Try Crutchfield or PAC sound.

Unless you want to do some field engineering, your stuck if you want to keep the use of the CD changer or don't want to go aftermarket.

I'm not opposed to aftermarket, but I don't want to loose the CD changer OR the cassette.....
Yes i actually have a use for a cassette...... Judges tapes during marching band season.....
Good for brownie points with the band director if he/she doesn't have to wait to get back from the show to hear the judge's comments.

I only use the IPOD for trips anyway.....

ford dealerships sell a ford part with this number 6R3Z-19A464-AA it is a genuine ford accessory and it is called triptunes ford fm modulator. It comes with instructions on how to install. I think it costs about $40-50

I agree with the others and after a lot of searching I’m pretty sure the adapters won’t work with my 6-disc head unit not equipped w/external cd-changer capabilities. It must not have the two external connectors. Without pulling it out I can’t be sure it doesn’t have external capabilities. I doubt it. I found one adapter for 98-03 on ebay and he says it won’t work with the 6-cd head unit.
