What i do for my customers is use a WIRED FM modulator instead of the wireless junk available in the ipod world. The wired ones actually go in-line with the ant. and put the audio in through a station the same way the wireless ones do, but because it's wired it is a much better feed. You can get the wired FM Mods for about $40 and run a headphone jack to RCA converter plug to the RCA inputs of the FM mod.

It goes like this:

12v switched and ground to FM Modulator (both available in radio harness)
pull antenna cable from factory radio and plug into modulator
plug antenna from modulator back into radio
plug in RCA cables long enough to go where you want your ipod to sit
plug headphone adapter into RCA's
plug ipod into headphone adapter
tune radio to pre-determined modulator station

Obviously this will not control the ipod, will only repeat the signal coming out of it through the factory radio.

Let me know if you have any questions. If you are near Houston I can sell you the parts and do the install for you. MECP certified installer with 18 years experience.

lol, well you werent totally wrong. they emailed me back and said that 04 was the earliest they had. and they did not give any glimpse of hope by saying something may come in the future. so looks like after market is the way to go if you want to control your ipod.

After looking at several other sites it seems there is a way to tap a module that'll allow you to listen to your iPod through your speakers without using those crappy FM tuners.

Seriously though, you'd be better off in my opinion going aftermarket in your case. For what that company was selling their product for you could buy a head unit that will allow you to control your iPod. I think it was 200 bucks for the device you were asking about. That just seems a little high for something like that. My wife's 07 Accord has the same exact thing and we only paid 125 for it installed.

Oh well. Hope all goes well with what you decide to go with.

The absolute easiest, and most cost effective way to listen to your ipod is to get an itrip which is made by Griffen. Its a wireless adaptor that plugs into your ipod and uses FM frequency to play through your factory speakers. I LOVE mine!

I got them from Auto Zone but have seen them at Wal-Mart and have also made them out of coat hangers. They are just U shaped pieces of stiff wire that push into the holes on the sides of the faceplate. Push them in until you feel them "seat", push the handles away from the center of the radio to release the spring tabs inside the dash and pull the radio out.

Sounds way more complicated than it is. If you can't get it out go slip your local installer $5 and he'll pull it out for you. For $30-$45 he'll probably do the whole install for you. He can probably sell you the parts too.

I think that's what he has right now. Those work good until you get into an area of high interference and high power FM station modulation. I have customers that live in the country and swear by the wireless adapters and others that live near airports and repeater towers and their modulation gets over-powered regularly. I'm glad yours works though, definately the easiest route.

Ya that is exactly what I already have the griffin itrip, but in my opinion they kinda suck, more power to you if yours works just fine, but I find it a pain the the butt that you cant move your ipod around much or it will go static. Also I live 60 miles out of Seattle so the fm stations are pretty much jammed. But I will deal with it for now. I dont really have the funds to do much about it I was just looking for the cheap easy pulg it into the back of the deck. Damn 2001 technology.

Even with GREAT reception the wireless deals aren't the best way to listen either. The sound quality is just way off no matter the reception. You can tell a big difference in my wife's car after we changed to the direct connect deal. I just gave away the FM tuner the other day, it wasn't worth what I paid for it that's for sure.

If you want it and can come up with the money I will ship you a high quality wired FM Modulator, headphone adapter jack and rca cables for $60. Will also do a full write up on the install and put it in the box. Just let me know if you are interested, no time limit on the offer.
