you need to replace the intake plenum gasket and the
(isolator bolts) this will fix your problem..

2001 4.2 ltr
Mine had the P0171 & P0174, both lean codes. Cleaned my MAF and they have not come back yet. It's been 3000 miles since.

Had both banks lean on my truck and it was as simple as a vacuum leak. fixed the leak with a piece of rubber fuel line and alls good

Me and Blazin don't have both codes thats the problem.. I have also been told that the plenum gasket may cause this so I'm gonna go ahead and do that I think..I have a 5.4.. the only people that have given me that advice have had 4.2's does that make any difference?

It could also possibly be a O2 sensor that's on the fritz....

That going out would throw that code I believe.

ok ,this may be the same problem i had with mine . i was getting codes po171 and po174 (bank one and bank two running lean ). there was a tsb posted for f150's 2001 - 2003 . What you may need to do is replace the port gaskets and the isolatator bolts between the upper and lower intake manifold . I did this myself and it took about 4-5 hours to do . parts where around 135.00 and you need to get them from a ford parts dealer . you also need to get a repair manual so you know the tighting pattern . Hope this helps . Good luck !
