If i recall all 5.4 heads are windsors. As the 5.4 was produced out of the Windsor plant. Also Most I have seen with 8 thread heads have a build date of 1/03. Unless it was a lightning.

The 8 thread heads started in 03, not sure exactly when they started, my 03 had 4 thread. I'm also pretty sure I have read on the L boards that there were even a few 04s with 4 thread heads.
Having a Lightning doesn't mean anything. There are more 4 thread Lightnings on the road than 8 threads!
BTW the 4.6L, 5.4L, & 5.4L Supercharged all had the same heads & cams so saying one model came with 8 threads isn't true, it was hit or miss.

I just bought a 2003 F-150, 4.6L V8, and I've been on this forum doing some reading to get up to speed with preventative maintenance, possible issues, etc. I've already come across several threads regarding spark plug blow-out. Do "8" and "4" WRT to threads refer to the number of threads machined into the head where the plugs go? And there's not an issue with 8 thread heads?
What do you recommend I do to be proactive on this?
Thanks.

While replacing the cracked plastic intake on my '01 5.4, I decided to replace my plugs and found four of the old ones to be barely more than finger tight.
It would be a good idea to check them all periodically.
