Default spark plug blowout

just had the # 5 plug blow out on my 2002 supercrew with the 5.4 . most of the posts I read say that other plugs are more likely to go . is there any way to pull the plugs and check the treads or is it just a waiting game with this problem . going to try the dorman 42025 cylinder repair kit and see how that goes . thanks , francis

Hi.

Either Timecert, or these folks:

www.blownoutsparkplugs.com

Also - see their FAQ section - specifically #51 & 52 - that is what you need to do to ensure it never happens again on yer remaining plugs that are still in there.

I'd do that now or you are risking ejecting more plugs.

good luck

Make sure the existing ones are torqued to spec, and continually check them. Otherwise, it's just a waiting game as you said.

Have you done the job before? It's really not all that bad. You're lucky it's #5 up front and not one of the plugs toward the rear.

watched a video on you tube using the dorman kit and it looks pretty basic . I will make sure to re-torque all the other plugs

Wondering if your Dorman fix held up. My #4 plug blew out a few months ago and I tried the Dorman thing but could not get it to thread into the spark plug hole so I went and bought the CalVan kit #38900. Worked great and still holding up.

I believe it's '03 that they fixed the issue, and even then, it was mid-way through production so not all '03s have the fix iirc.

It's pretty much a guessing game. My mid year 03 had one 8thread and one 4thread

I didn't realize they fixed it mid '03, I must have been on the wrong end of '03 cuz I have the 4 thread Romeo heads.
