Yup and that's exactly why I had the shop fix my truck right! Lol they had it fixed by 03 and I wasn't about to spend my own money fixing a known issue with older doors... Especially when my insurance guarantees one model year or newer on parts (or same model year since my truck is the end of the generation) even sent the TSB to the insurance co. to help educate them on the problem lol

I have the TSB for this if anyone wants it. It's a lengthy one.

Here's a complaint file if anyone wants to read thru, -

That's just for the 98 models, - there's a ton more for the tenth gens about this. And it's for both sides drivers and pass.

I don't know about drain holes, but yea, the bottom of the door where the two panels come together. That would be the bottom of the quote as well.
not the actual drain holes are rusted. it's in the general vicinity of the drain holes that's rusted, right where the metal comes together in the fold at the bottom of the door. my driver side is the worst but is fixable, and the passenger side door is starting to do the same thing.

so with the TSB does that mean the dealership will fix it or what?

No, TSB's are just an advisory for a very common problem, and the necessary fix for it. A recall is the next step where the dealer is forced to fix the issue, free of charge. Usually affects safety. Airbags, gas tank straps, etc...

Nah, well sometimes they do IF you go to a Ford dealership. I believe a good dealership will call the manufacturer and try to get it covered or some kind of percentage knocked off. It's a possibility because it's a known problem via TSB....a defective part.

If it's a recall, which usually occurs if it's a safety issue/concern, then you get a letter letting you know there's a problem. You're to call and make a appointment with the dealership to come in and have it fixed free of charge.

My post before this provided info with this problem/defect specifically. Yea this was the one I referring to. If you read some of those complaints in the link made officially, you'll see that people are attempting to make it a safety concern. To get the manufacture to cover it of course. It didn't work with this one lol.

But yea, sometimes they'll fix tsb's and cover it. Because....it's simply cheaper for them to do so for people who make the time to bring the vehicle in vs forcing people to get it fixed..know what I'm sayin? If it's not deemed a safety concern, they can play that game.

The question is; cap or no cap?

I picked the cap up for $20 right before winter so I said why not. Many people say they like it on there and I should leave it, I never really liked caps but on some trucks they look good. For some reason I just like the look of a pickem up truck.

This photo is end of fall, no leveling kit, no cap (obv).

This photo is winter time, leveling kit, cap.

I think if you removed the plastic trim on the doors I think the cap would look great but as of now.... Meh. If you need it for functionality then yeah keep it cz it's not hideous
