Default Shift Cable Adjustment

Hi folks. i recently replaced my shift cable because the old one had broken. I am having difficulty now starting the truck in park. It will not start unless I hold up on the shift lever. I have made several adjustments at the transmission end of the cable but just can't seem to get it right. Can someone explain the proper procedure for doing this? And or explain something I may have missed. BTW, the truck is a 1998 F150 4x4, 5.4L, 4r100 trans. I also realize that shift tube and bushings are a known issue with this model that causes the same problem however, these items have been replaced at least once in the trucks life and i have confirmed that the tube and bushings seem to be okay. I did not have a starting issue prior to replacing the cable.

Any help would be appreciated.

I broke mine doing a heater core replacement. I chocked the back wheels and set parking brake. Unhook the cable from the transmission. Get in truck and move shift lever to N. Crawl back under truck and move shift lever on tranny to N, three clicks. Then I moved the adjustment on the tranny to line up with shift cable and snap cable back on tranny. Should now be adjisted.
