Default Selling/ recycling Catalytic converters

A year ago, I cut out and replaced the catalytic converters in my 01 5.4 screw. I finally got around to getting them to the scrap yard where I as counting on a nice payday.

When I got to the counter, the teller handed me $40 and said have a nice day. That threw me for a loop considering a few posts I've read said that I can get about enough out of my stock cats to buy the high flow replacements. I refused and took my cats back and kept them for another day.

Jbrew, this is Regal Recycling in Howell. They rang them up as four precats at $10 a piece. We all know there aren't precats on these trucks.

My question for those that have recently scrapped theirs or are in the know, what are these actually worth? Are there better yards in Michigan to sell to? Has the value of scrap platinum dropped dramatically? Were they looking to make a quick buck on some young kid?

Yeah scrap has been down for a while now so prices are dirt cheap.

Yeah, just sent a car to the scrap yard that 4 years ago I got $400 for a similar one that I only got $125 for. I called 6 yards to get that as the high price. Just not the demand for scrap steel since oil has gone down and reduced the call for oil drilling piping. Plus the China steel dumping on our market.

Yeah.... it's ridiculously low. My Buddy and I filled up his truck with old trans and t-case cases, and he got like 24 bucks. Right now, it'd be easier to throw it in the garbage, lol.

Strangely enough, I just ran across this picture from 2012 in my pb account. As I recall, we got just north of 200 for just this cart full.
