rough idle

rough idle
Hey guys! I have a 2002 F150 Supercrew 4X4 with a 4.6L V8. Recently it has started to run really rough at idle and has actually gone dead once at idle in gear with the brake applied, but started right back up.It has also surged once at idle in gear with the brake applied. There also seems to be a slight loss of power at speed. The check engine light was lit but I cleaned my battery cables and it reset itself and has not come back on even though the problem has not been resolved. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Daniel

I am not too fimaluar with using this but I have a 1987 F150 and a week ago I used the rear tank, it hadn't been used in over a year, anyhow it began choking only when I put the gas on, so I had the gas filter changed and it still is doing the same thing. Any Ideas?

F150 queen...don't hijack the thread. Start yourself a new one in your truck's years, those guys should be able to give you a hand, plus you won't divert the subject from the original posters intent. Go here and you should be set:

dog - I dunno...possibly a dirty/bad IAC? Without knowing miles on the truck, I would still say it'd probably be a safe bet to change out your fuel filter. Any more info you have on the subject/truck would probably help out.

Thanks for your advice. The truck has 90000 miles, you may be right about the fuel filter. I will try that first. I just talked to the autozone guy and he recommended that I wait and see if the check engine light comes back on so that he can run a diagnostic before I spend a lot of money on trial and error.
