Default Rocker Panel Kits

2001 scab short bed

I have got some real bad rust in the corners of my scab doors. I was thinking of either finding junk yard doors or doing a rocker panel kit. The kits I have been finding online are all stainless. I have the Lariat package that is white with a tan bottom. I'd rather have all black trim then stainless. It goes better with the truck.

Any recommendations and if possible pictures of trucks with black rocker panel trim on them? Thanks in advance. Or opinions on what you think will look best? Not sure how black rocker panels with tan wheel well trim will look.

Here is a picture of the truck pre-rust. You can just see it starting to peel. I now have 2 very large holes in each scab door.

Well, mine aren't the fancy stainless steel panels like your referring too. They're just black, but rust free. -

Yea, your rockers are going to be bad if the doors are like that. At the point yours are at now, they're going to get worse pretty quick. Seems like as soon as your able to see that stuff on the outer panels, the insides are shot. I wouldn't cover it up, that will speed up the problem. Those stainless steel panel covers don't look all that hot anyway.

Fixing it correctly isn't that big of deal with a little direction.

I'm referring to the covers/panels that go on the outside of the truck. Basically it covers up the painted bottom trim part.

How bad are the rockers?

Thank you. I like the way the truck is too minus the big hole. Here are pictures with what I'm dealing with. The inside is solid. It's the doors where I am having problems. This is the passenger side. Drivers side is slightly better but not by much. I sprayed some rust inhibitor in an attempt to slow the rot process down. Hence why it looks black. I am open to all suggestions on what I should do here. Thanks.

The rockers look good from the top side. Can you do any welding Fallguy?

If so, IronheadJay shows you how you fix those doors, -

You can also purchase skins and panels. Honestly, replacing the metal is the only way to go. I'd say your truck is worth it.

But if you can't do the work yourself, it could get pricey.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out later. I can weld but have only stick welded. I have a neighbor who is a diesel mechanic and welder, so I can ask him perhaps.
