Resealing the rear window
Which thickness of butyl rope is appropriate to reseal the rear glass? Or is it not critical?
For bonus points, any tricks to cleaning off the old butyl goo? The Google, it tells me nothing.

I did mine not too long ago. It's a task but well worth it. There is a 3 part video series on YouTube that shows all the steps of the process. To get the old tape off I just used itself to pull it off. Kind of like sticky tack. Let me try and find the link real quick.

I used 3M Window Weld. Comes in a caulk tube. The old adhesive on mine came off very easily because it was so deteriorated. Heat gun is useful for removing the window. The procedure was much easier than I expected but it takes a few hours of time.

I used the 3/8" 3m window weld that thay sale at autozone. I used a 3" wide putty knife to go around the window after I got all the bolts out. The old sealer comes off pritty easy with it self. I won't use the stuff in a caulk tup it don't last as long.

I also used the 3/8" one from Autozone.
I have read too many stories of issues using the liquid stuff in a tube, and the tape was super easy to apply.
And no secrets to getting the old stuff off, just some elbow grease and time with a putty knife and old rag. About 3/4 of my factory stuff pulled right off. Took 2-3 minutes for that part. The last 1/4 took an hour.

also used the 3/8 stuff from A-zone. Worked perfect. I didn't want to mess with the caulk stuff. Too messy and hard to remove. I used a die grinder with scotch bright pads for cleaning the surface. Primer for the bare spots I created. It's all covered by the trim so I wasn't worried about painting to match.

I'll check Autozone then. The stuff I saw at Oreillys was a thick sticky string in a plastic bag, I like the idea of tape much better. Thanks, guys.
