Replaced 8.8" Rear with a 9.75 Rear
I just replaced my 8.8" rear end with a 9.75" rear end on my 2001, F150 super crew. Everything fit perfect except for the length of the drive shaft. I had to push the front slip yoke all the way into the tranny and then it only cleared the rear yoke by about 1/4".
The front of the 9.75" is a little longer and more beefy than the 8.8".
Has anyone ever made this swap and if so, how much did you have to shorten the rear drive shaft.
I've read that the slip yoke at the tranny should only extend out 3/4" - 1". So if I use the 1" extension as a starting point, that currently gives me a negative .75 just to start with. (i had 1/4" slip with the driveshaft all the way in). So 1" out of tranny and add 3/4" to that, I'm guessing 2" would be plenty.
Any one have any additional thoughts.
