Default Replace harmonic balancer??

Has anyone replaced their harmonic balancer on a 4.6 or 5.4 (i'm assuming they're the same)?? Any tips to doing it or things I should look at/replace while I'm at it. I've had a strange rpm dependent chattering for awhile and it seems to be coming from the harmonic balancer. I also started to notice a slight vibration at idle a couple of weeks ago.

I have replace mine (4.6) because I could see it had a wobble in it. Figured I do that before it took out the crank bearing or something major. As for tips i would check/replace all the pulleys too. Buy a fan clutch wrench set, harmonic balancer puller and a breaker bar if you don't have these.

Don't buy it if you don't need to I hate to say it but auto zone has a nice fan clutch tool and puller set for cheap with there loan a tool you basically pay to rent and they reimburse you when you return it but you should definitely have a breaker bar but the pulleys should all be replaced along with your tensioner because they seem to go far more frequently then anything else

It will sound like a belt noise on steroids and visibly you can see it wobble

Sorry, I can't remember. I spent the 15$ on the wrench that I have use 6-7 times which is worth it to me. Saving my time/gas running to auto zone every time. But I'm keeping my truck for a LONG time

Did you guys have to remove anything to make it easier to get to the balancer??
If not I'm thinking I should plan 1-2 hrs for the balancer, 3-4hrs if I do all pulleys. Sound right?

Skid plate, Flywheel inspection cover, Plastic rad cover thing, fan and shroud. Plan for 4 hours then you have lots of time if you run into trouble
