*Help* Possible Transmission Problem
Hi all,
I'm new to the forum, but I've been having what I think might be pretty bad truck problems the past few days. I drive a 2001 F150, with about 109,000 miles. Automatic v8.
Two nights ago when I got off work I noticed something weird about when the truck tried to change from second to third gear. Normally I can feel when it's about to change and everything's fine, but now it doesn't change at that spot. Instead it keeps revving the RPMs and speed until i hit about 45 or 50 mph. The RPMs hit upwards of 3500 and it does a real rough change into 3rd gear. It's been doing this ever since then.. I googled a little bit and it seems to be a transmission problem? I also called a guy I know who works with a mechanic and he said something about a bad clutch something or other in the transmission? If this is correct, am I right in assuming it's going to cost an arm and a leg to fix it? Any help/information is much appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

You'll have to forgive me for being absolutely stupid when it comes to vehicles.. I have no idea about anything when it comes to cars/trucks.. With that being said, I assume that by "checking the levels" you mean taking out the stick, wiping it off, putting it back in to make sure there's fluid on it, just like you do when checking the oil? I hadn't done that yet, but I did just now and there was fluid up past the crosshairs, so I think that's okay right? Also I got an oil change about 2 weeks ago (not that that it matters, just thought I'd throw it out there just in case).
What should I hook it up to to see if there are any codes? Do I need to take it to someone that has a device? Thanks again..

yea , take it to someone with a code reader. could be something as simple as a sensor or could need a new trans. does the fluid look red? or brown ansd sniff it if it smells like its burned then thats bad.
