Price seems high to me, the dealership here charges less for a reman. I'd shop around myself

The state here has Jaspers in some of their rigs too. Not sure how you've seen TWO in a row fail.

Sea stories sound great though!
23k isn't exactly the test of time..
Jasper is either decent or ****, I have family that works at ford and they have put jaspers in for customers just for them to fail.

The ford reman is $3750. The parts counter will sell it to you at discount for OTC sale. From $3300-3500. If you ask for it installed, it will be 6000+ all in.

Dealerships dont install motors daily, they arent really the best place to go. An engine installer that does several per week is more time efficient and adept at the whole job, although it does depend on the person doing it. Any shop can put a dumb***** with no experience on any job. Everyone learns somehow.

Is the Ford AER better than the one you might get otherwise? Possibly. Its possible they have tighter standards and only take the best ones. For only a $500 difference (3300 vs 2850) you can have it to make sure. It comes with thermostat, motorcraft plugs, and oil already in it. But coordinating transport from a dealer counter, to your installer, and returning the core, is a hassle. An installer will get the same discounted price on the ford AER engine....but hes going to keep the markup for himself in most cases unless you deliver the engine to him.

Hey why not...

Anybody know why there are no crate offerings for the mod motors? Just not enough money to be made?

Yeah, should have replied earlier. I did have it replaced with an AER engine.

I ended up with problems but nothing to do with the engine, I think. Right after the engine was replaced it was soooo smooth. I was a happy man.

Then I started noticing a tick when cold. Took it back to them. Had the sound recorded on my phone so they could hear it. It's that sound that will drive you nuts. Is it a bad lifter? Exhaust leak? Something scarier?

It's been a year or so and the tick just kept getting worse. Then the engine would shudder on acceleration more and more often. I had initially taken it back to the shop that did the work (several times) and you know what I got from them? They said it wasn't throwing a code. I said "Hell, it wasn't throwing a code when I brought it to have the engine replaced either". Damn, I was pissed. $5k thrown down the drain... I wanted to strangle that motherf.... Not because I had problems. It was because of their approach afterwards. All they did was engines. How could this go so bad????

Anyway. It was getting worse and I have long since given up hope on the mechanic. So a month ago I was digging around in the engine compartment and noticed one of the ignition coils was just flopping around. My guess is they stripped the threads on the intake manifold and over time it was just bouncing around in there getting more and more loose. I put my fingers on it and wiggled and pushed. Hopped into the truck and it ran better immediately. Almost like it did when I first got the engine.

Anybody know how to fix a stripped intake manifold coil pack mount when the threads have been stripped??

Ford intake with the brass insert? You could try over-boring and re-tapping the insert. Not sure if that could work or not.

plastic manifold? get some devcon plastic steel or JB weld or just about any epoxy on the market, clean the striped threads according to directions fill, redrill and tap out to correct size.

I've bought two re-mans from ford
they were both right at $3000 out the door.
I installed them myself and had no problems with either.

that being said
I am a mechanic
I know lots of other mechanics. most of them I wouldn't let touch my vehicles

I took a ford to ford shop once when I was 20 years old, never been back to another shop since.
