How can i improve my mpg's?
I have a 2002 Ford 150 lariat with the 5.4 The truck has 33's on it with a 4" Rancho lift kit and I'm averaging 10mpg. I 'm hoping there's a way to get it up to 13mpg. Any suggestions??

This is a thread I could really get into... I have a 4.6 (stock) and was wondering if CAI would improve milage much with a stock tune?
I get about 15.5 on avg
Right not I have at least one bad cop, maybe two so I really need to get in there and replace all of them. One good thing about having a bad cop (or at least for me) is I don't/can't drive it real hard and just grandpa around in it?
I guess that helps my milage more then anything??

I have pacesetter long tubes and magnaflow high flow cats with a true dual setup to cherry bombs and 90s with a CAI setup different coils and spark plugs e3s I think. Other than that not much 456 gears and 35s 9 inches of lift and an sas still get around 14 so over stock im not doing to bad think you should be able to pull 18 or better with a tune and some exhaust

LongNap. if you have a 4.6 you dont have cops, you have coil packs (2 of them) one runs 4 cylinders, and you have to change out the whole thing.
but in the long run nothing helps your mpgs better than a smooth running truck. when you get all your stuff checked up on (mostly little stuff; plugs, fuel filter, air filter. stuff like that) youll see a difference.
CAIs are an option but a cheaper one is a Gotts mod, if you dont know you can search it, theres plenty of threads, it opens up the airways going to the air filter, in case you havent noticed our trucks have a honkin big air filter, so the only way a CAI would help is by opening up the hole.
also, i kno a lot of people on here dog seafoam like theres no tomorrow, but it really is helpful stuff in moderation(my truck has 172k miles and ive only used it once, at 130k) i pour half to 2/3rds of a can in the vacuum hose coming off the master cylinder for your brakes (on the drivers side firewall) you have to go slow and let the engine suck it in, then turn off the engine and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, pour the rest in the oil. start it up and all the carbon being burnt off will make it white smoke for a while. let it get rid of that for the most part and take it out for a drive down the road and you can tell a night and day difference. i did at least

I've used seafoam before but not in a car/truck so I might have to give that a try the we you did.
Thanks for the other information and I will read up on it before doing anything else. I have 112K miles on it now and just starting my list of mods

no problem. and my fault on the bad info, ive always been told 4.6s have coil packs, whoops lol. i have a 5.4 and it has singles. but seafoam works like a champ, especially if its never had it done

Early 4.6's and 5.4's I believe 97-98 had wires.
