Default Rebuild 5.4 or get a reman?

What's y'all opinion on rebuilding a 5.4 or buying a rebuild? Bocephus has 180k on him and is feeling worn out, and one of these will be in my future. Thanks

Bocephus lol. Give him a little more credit, he needs some updates that's all. They do get tired at about 180/185,000 miles. Tell you what tho, update the O2's, PCV, Injectors, coils and plugs and he'll ****ten and grinnen (in a positive way of course)...

Not kidding, - mine felt like a slug at 185,000 miles, so I decided to go thru it in that way. It went from heavy feeling slug to a light feeling, quick/responsive truck again. Believe it or not, runs better than new and it's @ 309,000 miles now. They are great engines as long as they are not too abused. On the other hand, they are very resilient and can handle a little neglect from time to time.

IMO, - never go with a reman and definitely don't rebuild, (unless it's more of a hobby). Been around these long enough to know your best bet is getting a low mileage used engine.

Far to many remans fail prematurely (even the Jasper remans) and rebuilding is time and money.

Id like to know your opinion on the injectors as well Jbrew. Sorry for the off topic, but I was thinking of doing injectors next on mine after I install my E-fans & underdrive pulleys. I still need to do a plug swap & at the same time I am planning on all new coils as I have no idea if this truck has even had a plug change at 160K now. Ive heard some people say larger injectors are a waste unless your running forced injection. Did you notice much by upgrading?

Bosch Design 3's have the better spray pattern compared to the short fat factory injectors. They are a bit louder tho. Nothing big as far as mileage or performance difference,- that I noticed anyway. Hard to say really, I went thru the 98 and replaced everything in one weekend.

Larger injectors won't help anything. If your close to 300HP then yes.

Now you can run larger injectors, - but why lol.

Yea here's the table, at the bottom, -

Here's how you service what you have,-

Yea, one other notation.

Injectors have two types of connectors for EV1 and EV6 type injectors. Make sure you match injectors to your harness. Think I have a pic of the difference; Yea, -

In that pic ^^ I found injectors from the Romeo plant, -new takeoffs from a 4six Crown Vic crate. I asked for the harness as well. Many times I have pillaged that harness to replace a connector that was broken lol.

So yea, just keep that in mind when purchasing injectors. All ford connectors are replaceable. There's a PDF catalog online.
