I thought I posted this already but I guess not...

I have the 9.75" rear with 3.55LS and my truck is nearing 170k miles. I want to rebuild the rear end and put some 3.73's in for towing purposes, but while i'm in there, I'm sure the LS should be rebuilt because of the mileage on the truck...

My question is, what kind of LS is in the 9.75? Is it clutch style, or springs? Any help with where to go to get a rebuild kit for the 9.75 would be very helpful. Thanks a lot.

I'm getting my ring and pinion along with everything else changed out this week although it only has 82,000 miles on it. It is a clutch set-up if I'm not mistaken. I'm putting in a Detroit TrueTrac, which is a gear driven limited slip. I've read up on it and from everything I've heard it is a pretty good unit. Kind of pricey though. $515

515$ for the unit? Does that include the gears? Probably not. I would love to have one of those, but with my 2wd, and the minimal amount of 'offroading' it sees it would probably not suffice the cost of that system.

So new clutches and a friction modifier is what I am looking at. I should probably replace the axle bearings and everything too.. I guess I need to start adding all this stuff up.

To have someone rebuild the whole rear end it is going to cost me $1500. That's putting a 4.11 gear with the Detroit TrueTrac and replacing all of the bearings and seals. When it is all said and done I will have a new rear end with the exception of the axles. I only have 82,000 miles on my 2001 Screw 2wd but I have a 3.55 LS gear with 275/55/20 tires on it and from what I have read that is close to having a 3.31 gear ratio with that size tire. Need more pep when I'm pulling my 4000# boat.

Yeah I have the 3.55 LS too, the axle code is H9. It is a 9.75" rear. Do you know a place where I can buy the rebuild parts as a kit rather than ordering all the seals and bearings and LS clutches seperately? I would rather buy the bearing/seal kit, and the LS parts in kits, it would be so much easier. How are you doing it?

As far as buying the bearings and seals, you can go online to Randy's Ring and Pinion and order kits that come with all of the bearings and seals except for the outer axle bearings and seals. I believe the website is ringpinion.com . You'll probably have to order the parts for the limited slip unit at a Ford dealership. That is the only place I could find the parts and shims for that rebuild, but I then decided to go with the Detroit TrueTrac. The outer axle bearings and seals can probably be bought at a local parts store. If this ice storm ever leaves I will be taking my truck to have it all installed. Hopfully it will be done by the beginning of next week.
