Is noise present when shifting into reverse? Sould get the same noise if U-joints are going out. Double check by turning drive shaft by hand. Don't forget, engine off ---in neutral---parking brake on!

You're drive shaft probably just needs to be lubricated with a teflon based grease where it mates with your transmission. It cost $20 up here in Canada.

Smile Replace the U-Joints

Mine clunked for quite sometime, but when it started to squeak when I started
rolling I replaced both front and back joints. the back ones was shot at 150k
it cost 32.00 labor at the machine shop to have them both pressed out and about
24.00 for the joints. Replace with types that have grease fitting, you will glad you did.
