Sorry to bring up an old thread but I was thinking of doing this setup. I too found a 9.75 for $100. The only thing I want out of this deal is disc brakes in the rear. I would have to swap my 4.11 gears to the new axle and buy new rotors calipers etc. because the ones on this axle are rusted to no end. I'm starting to find that it would cost me around $1800 for the complete setup including front hub assemblies with the 14mm lugs.

Does anyone know if there is a drum to disc conversion kit for our trucks? I fell like that would make my life a lot easier being that my current rear axle is already a 9.75. I'm planning to run 37's soon and I feel like the rear discs will be better for my truck especially when towing.

How did you get the $1800 figure? Only thing I can think of that you need would be the axle, swap your gears, calipers, pads etc and maybe brake lines

Axle- 100
Blasting/paint- 50
Doping- 60
Rotors/calipers/pads(4 wheels)- 850
Rear diff rebuild kit- 250
Master cyl- 50
Front hub assy, 14mm (2)- 200
Abs control module (mine's out)- 100

Roughly $1700 plus what lines I have to buy. I'm being a little generous and trying not to use the cheapest parts I can find. And I figure I might as well put new rotors and calipers all the way around. Just a ball park

Gotcha! The calipers, rotors and pads seem a little high,is that including labor? That stuff is pretty easy, the only time I needed help with brakes is when we couldn't figure out why my pads were literally shooting from the truck every couple hundred miles it turns on my line was streched out and locking up the caliper.

If you want rear disc just upgrade to a 00.5+ 9.75. It has larger bearing an better oiling to keep from frying the pinion bearings which is a common problem with the early axles.

I found one for $100 but I think it will be too expensive for my taste. Not sure if it's really worth it. $1700 to do it myself, and do it right. May just keep my drums for a while longer.

You do realize that will not work in a 10th Gen truck(97-03) right? Its a Sterling 9.75 with a limited slip and 3.73 gears.
