Also, if you tow it would be beneficial if you go 4.56 even if you do a lot of hwy driving.

Kinda depends on what your end objective is, although I realize you may not know what that is right now. Do you want to go with bigger tires and keep the rpms the same as stock. Do you want to tow or off road? Maybe a little more gear. You know what your rpms are now at 55? How's that working. Try driving 55 in 3rd gear and see what that's like. Take that knowledge and go to the rpm chart and punch in tire sizes and gear ratios till you find a combination you like. You need to do some experimenting to find out what's gonna work for you. We can help you find that out, but in the end you have to decide what works for you.

Sorry should of been more clear. What are stock RPMs on these rigs with 3.55 assuming stock tires. I'm trying to find a baseline. My truck has been running 34s the whole time I've owned it. I know I need more torque. I'm trying to get an idea of where the factory configuration was to help me decide where to land. TIA

I don't know. I'll tell you how to find out. I just did this a little while ago. I'll tel you how to do it, but I don't want to do it for you.

Google 2001 f150 xlt? 4x4 stock tires size. I cameto a chart that listed tires stock tires sizes, diameters and widths. It also listed optional sizes. I wrote down the sizes,265/75-17, and the diameter,32.6, of several tires, up 35s. Nest google rpm calculators. Pick Randy's. Punch in the number asked for. You'll have to enter tire sizes in even numbers. You can vary the tire sizes and gear ratios at say 55 mph to get rpm's or vary what ever to get what ever. If you have any questions after that, let me know.

To find your stock sizing look at the sticker in the driver door jam.
