Default 2000 wont start

Thanks in advance.

I pulled in my driveway and took my keys out of the ignition. Oddly the truck continued to run. It is a standard so I killed it with the clutch. All electric components remained on. From this point I changed the ignition tumbler as well as the ignition switch(the box under steering column) neither were successful. Also there was no resistance when I turned the key on or off.

I researched and discovered that my actuator rod was broken in the steering column. I bought a new rod and installed it this morning. I put everything back together and tried to start it but again there was no resistance in the key tumbler and it would not start.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Is the part the rod connects to supposed to have resistance at all times?

Also I returned the new tumbler when that was ruled out so I am still using my original keys. I have attached some pictures if it helps. Thanks!

First, I really appreciate you taking the time to reply.
After I replaced the actuator arm there continued to be no resistance in the tumbler. The next part I thought it could be was 30$ at ford. I called my local junkyard and got a steering column for 50$.

This next info may help someone in the future so I apologize if its in the wrong place.

The first steering column they gave me was from an 03. It had a key and was from the same style truck. However when we got it put in the truck would crank but would never completely start. This was because of the anti theft system (PATS). The PATS connection around the ignition is not the same as it was in my 2000. We found out that they changed the connection in the 03 trucks. We took it back and got a column out of a 99 that was a match however there was no key. We followed a post on this website and were able to drill out the tumbler. After this I took the ignition PATS connection from around the ignition and the clockspring from my previous column and swapped it with the junkyard column. The truck started right up.

I do have one last question about the steering column shaft. There is a spring on the shaft that connects to the lower unit. The only thing that holds the shaft on is a coupler. Is this spring supposed to be compressed with a tool or to a certain pressure? The fact that the coupler is the only thing keeping the rod in place makes me nervous. Thanks for your help.

Glad you got it going! Figured it had something to do with the PATS. I got a 98 therefore no PATS, thank god, they are a pain.

Good job and thanks for the info!
