Default Radio on CD player keeps cutting out.

The radio on the CD player keeps cutting out and I got to tap on it to make it work again. Sometimes it might take several hard taps. When I bought this truck used several years ago, the CD player was already in it. So it's pretty old but it didn't start acting up until the beginning of 2016.

What could be the cause of the cut outs? Bad wiring? Or maybe something needs to be tightened behind the CD player?

The player itself might be going out or a loose wire. But i doubt a loose wire cause once its installed those wires go untouched unless its brought back out for some reason.

Is it stock or after market? Either way just replace it.

Why not just use a USB flash drive, phone or tablet instead of CD Player? You just need FM modulator/tuner.

Then you need an amp to power the speakers. Your phone or flash drive won't cut it.

My money is on a solder joint gone bad or a corroded connection on a board.

I would say check the connections, start with the antenna connection if its only the radio.

The title of this thread is a little confusing - as it really doesn't seem to have anything to do with the CD player. It's the radio that's cutting out.

This is a good suggestion.

I am not familiar with which radio you have, but on my stocker, the "ST" (for stereo) on the display would illuminate when it had a good signal. When your radio is cutting out, is the "ST" illuminated? If so, I would say it's an internal issue with the amplifier circuit, or you've got a short in a speaker wire.
