Hehehehe Nothin' is EASY when you work on cars.. What should be a five minute job can sometimes take all day....
The FIRST one took 1.5 hours, the second maybe 20 minutes. Not bad for someone who NEVER did it......

[QUOTE=Topline Mike;4067812]Are you still out there, chinaclipper? How about skizriz?
This is a great thread. I'm wondering if chinaclipper fixed his rust problem again.QUOTE]

I'm still here!!! The truck is going strong, minor bleed-thru is cared for by light de-rusting with the wire wheel, and repainting. I do NOT want to have to do the rocker panel replacement again.....In fact, that reminds me, I need to get to it again after the long wet winter....
It is truly a never-ending battle I am afraid, but a little work now will prevent another MAJOR repair in the future, I hope!

How is that patch holding up, on the lower front bed panel. I think it was you that used a backing plate ..correct ? Or maybe you spot welded ? Can't remember.

Well, I got the front fender ready to take off. My only problem is the antenna. I popped off the cover, took out the three screws, and then what? How do I get the cable out of the bracket so it goes through the fender??

Nevermind. I went inside, ate some WI cheese, and came back to the shop with more power. Pulled a little harder, and out she popped.

Jbrew, the patch is holding up GREAT! Unfortunately I can already see some bad rust in the rear portion of the bed, just in front of the rear bumper...
Rust truly never sleeps!

Hey man, you still around ? Still have a issue w/bleed thru ? From what I gather, the way you prevent that is to use a speed/spot blaster after a butt or spot weld. Pretty much the only way to get rid of ALL contamination from the welding procedure. Just a quick blast of the weld only, and I believe it's a soda blast if I recall correctly. I've seen it done, creates VERY LITTLE dust to contend with. I know my jaw would have dropped to the ground seeing rust coming thru after all that. The pic I'm referring too, -

Shoot, -I just remembered where I saw that vid, it was @ the Eastwood site, but not all that easy to find. So much to learn and remember. Getting ready, ducks in a row. Yea, just a quick blast , I need to find that exact vid and post it up. It's looking like it's an important step!

Also, you can get Zinc Phosphate, - the brush on stuff as a follow-up. You won't get bleed thru with that stuff, specially when prepped correctly. Just an idea, if your constantly having to deal with bleed thru in that area.

Thanks again for your contribution

Also, I'm going to attempt to use the factory rock guard on the rockers and lower bed panels, - most likley. Unless I find a reason not to lol

Hey jbrew, yeah I'm still around. Those rust spots haven't got any worse but they haven't done any better either of course ha ha Ha. Latest project is to repair a small rust area underneath my driver side bed fender. It's a small project the car is 14 years old so if I don't get it perfect who knows who cares. It's been fun I'll post pictures when I'm done. Rust never sleep does it?
