Hope this is in the right forum. I have a 1999 F150 5.4 XLT extended cab. Yesterday both power windows stopped working (driver/passenger) at the same time; the passenger side was closed the driver side was 3/4 open. I discounted the motors since they both stopped. I checked the maxi fuse in the power box and it had blown.

I replaced the 30A maxi fuse and managed to get the driver side to close and then they stopped working again. Checked the fuse and it had blown.
Any ideas as to why all of a sudden I have this power window issue? Nothing has been done to the truck recently; no maintenance or electrical changes.

Where should I look next?

Pull out the switches and check for something visually hot, remember both left and right windows depend on internal circuit of the left switch. Here is a site for the diagram.

Thanks for the quick response Bill; I'll give that site a try. I've heard it's rather simple to get the door panel off to get to the switch; so I'll try my hand at that when I get home from work.

Most of the switches are removable before the door panel comes off.

Sorry for the delay; here's an update on the power window issue:

- replaced fuse and operated the passenger window from the passenger door window switch with the passenger door open and closed - it worked fine in all cases.
- operated the passenger window from the driver's side door and that worked fine also.

My conclusion then is that the driver's power window motor is the problem since the passenger window works fine from the drivers side switch and the passenger side switch.

Is that a correct conclusion?

Sorry for the website subscription being closed. Supprised me also. Would think you analogy or theory is correct, problem is in the drivers side. Need to go inside and check further. Question, is there anything else on that same fuse?

It looks like, according to the manual, that there is nothing else on that fuse.

I have a question though with regards to the driver's side power window motor:

I have seen other discussions where the regulator could be the problem, the switch itself (on driver's side) could be the problem, or it is the motor on the driver's side.

Now that I know the driver's side is where the issue is; is there an easy way to narrow it down ?
