Default Parts? Mods? What are your opinions?

I am looking into parts to lift and convert a stock 2wd F150 to 4wd with a solid front axle.

I came across this kit: http://rpmfab.com/products-page/f-15...-60-1997-2003/

Which basically includes shackles and springs to mount a dana 44 or dana 60 but I have to source my own axle and steering components.

I want to put on the 4 inch leaf springs for the total 6 inch lift as I don't want to make too too tall. But that's about as far as I have gotten in terms of what to do.

I know I need the axle separately as well as steering components but I am not sure how much of that to expect to come with the axle, or what I will need to source.

Does anyone think this is a good/bad kit?

Then I was looking at axles and I see 3 choices for leaf sprung dana 60's from this vendor:

http://www.offroadpowerproducts.com/...rPIhoCpbTw_wcB

I know the model year is wrong, but hey this is for an F-250, not my 150, and I assume I am going to have custom weld mounts anyway so what's in a model year? near as I can tell the differences are in the track width as one is 80x30x25 and the other 2 are 60x20x10 so I have no idea which one is correct.

To make matters worse I don't believe this comes with the CV or the wheel hub carrier or hub so I need to figure out which ones to get, and if I can mount my stock brake calipers or hang ones from a 250..

But then I found this:

http://www.4wd.com//Dana-60-Full-Hyd...kjmBoCW7Hw_wcB

Wow holy hell that's pretty but it looks like it is just accessories for the axle and no actual axle tube... so then I was searching Ebay and I found this from a 2002 F-350 super dudty

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2002-Ford-F3...-/252090917333

At this point I am basically what you would call lost in the land of "oh! thats cool can I use that?!.. Oh My god that's sweet how can I bolt this on my truck? Wow WHAT ARE THOSE?" and in need of a kick in the boot, a point in the proper direction and maybe a shopping list I can follow >_<

Basically I have a 2wd 97 F-150 with a 4.2 v6 and I want to make it 4wd with a divorced T-case, slightly taller, and then later swap in a triton motor.

I am not scared of the welder, the lift, or hard work. But I have never done this type of work before and don't know, what I don't know...which as it turns out, is a lot.

Am I even remotely heading in the right direction here?

Honest opinion? NO. Why is the question? With so many 3/4 and 1Tons out there, why go thru all this hassle. You'd be money ahead to buy what you want and then go from there. Not start in Hawaii and try and figure how to drive to the mainland.. It's hard to work that way, in my opinion. Good luck.

Well, simply because that's the point of this truck. To do crazy projects on for fun, and to essentially rebuild the entire thing from scratch one part at a time bigger better and much less economical than it was before! ^_^

I would look for super duty axles from an obs SD, 92-98 would be a good start. Iirc they are leaf sprung. You will probably have to cut off the spring perches and weld some new ones on.
